| GREEN COMMUNITY SOAP BOX [top] | ||
Do you have a unique perspective that you want to share with other local Greens? If so, tell us about it! As a grassroots party, Green policy originates in our own communities from our shared knowledge and experiences, not in Sacramento or Washington DC. We know that Greens are everywhere in Sonoma County, making a difference through our day-to-day lives. What do you know about changing the world for the better? Are you a school teacher, street activist, lawyer, mother, or engineer who happens to be Green? Write to us and share your expertise. We'll use your stories in our work as Green Party activists and may share them in future issues of this newsletter. Please send submissions to |

| NEW GPSC COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBER! [top] | ||
An election for a vacant County Council seat was held at the April 21 General Meeting of the Green Party of Sonoma County. The candidates introduced themselves and later answered questions posed by the attendees. A single IRV election was held with the two candidates and a "No Other Candidate" (NOC) choice as well. The results of the first round was a tie, and the second choice votes were used to break the tie. Congratulations to Bill Patterson who was declared the winner! |

| REMIND YOUR FRIENDS IN OAKLAND TO VOTE! [top] | ||
Amy Allison is very close to winning an historic victory as the first Green Party member ever to be elected to the Oakland City Council !! The data gathered by Aimee's campaign shows that more voters favor her than any other candidate!! However (unlike the other leading candidates), a significant percentage of Aimee's supporters have not yet voted in this vote-by-mail-only election -- so Aimee's status now depends on having a successful "get out the vote" effort during these next couple of weeks (before the May 17 deadline for voted ballots to arrive at the County Registrar's office). Aimee Allison is a 35-year old biracial businesswoman and mother raised in Antioch, California. Holder of a BA in History and an MA in Education from Stanford, she has lived in Oakland since 1991. She currently works as a training and development consultant for youth development nonprofits and other small businesses. Aimee was a Conscientious Objector in the Persian Gulf War. Attracted by the armys offer of education, she enlisted as a combat medic in order to pay to attend Stanford. As an undergraduate she developed a strong commitment to pacifism while caring for veterans at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. For more than a dozen years now Aimee has been a counselor to military personnel who are seeking CO status, a public speaker against war, and a nonviolence trainer.
