Conversations Around the Fire: Renter's Rights in a Disaster Zone
The fires, that ravaged our county and beyond, created havoc in a community already stressed by too little and too expensive housing. In a county with a less than 1% vacancy rate, we lost more than 5,000 housing units. This increases the temptation for landlords to evict tenants and raise rents. Government understands this and has included protections against price-gouging in its emergency declaration.
How renter's rights have changed will be discussed with
Ronit Rubinoff of Legal Aid of Sonoma County
Alegria de la Cruz of the Sonoma County Counsel office
Julie Combs of the Santa Rosa City Council
Adrienne Lauby of Homeless Action! will talk about past, present and future homelessness
There will be a summary of financial aid options in the county.
Following the presentations, there will be breakout circles to facilitate organizing around these issues; included will be an opportunity for people to share their stories.
Free; refreshments and childcare provided; wheelchair accessible; fragrance free, please
